About Our Programs…

The Computer Science (CIS) department offers three A.A.S. programs: Web Applications, Network Administration, and Wide Area Telecommunications Technology (CCNP specialization). All courses are developed, approved, and implemented in coordination with the CIS advisory committee, a body of professionals in businesss, information processing, web page design and development, and networking. The curriculum mirrors local, regional, and statewide demands that lead to successful participation in a global economy. Some A.A.S. programs also include an optional Enhanced Skills Certificate that students may obtain to demonstrate additional skills above the A.A.S. degree. The CIS Department also offers a transfer plan for students majoring in computer science as well as one-year certificate programs for those students who wish to develop skills in specialized areas that include Web Page Database, Web Page Development, Web Page Graphic Design, Personal Computer and Network Technician, Local Area Network Operations, Wide Area Administration, and Wide Area Telecommunications Technology.

Degree Plans

Students enrolling in Computer Science degree programs should make every possible effort to complete courses in the required sequence. When circumstances warrant deviation from prescribed plans, the student’s assigned faculty advisor must be consulted for approval of changes including, but not limited to, substitution of courses, waiver of prerequisites, and permission to take courses concurrently.

The Victoria College Computer Science department provides multiple exit points through degree plans of varying lengths. Certificates range from 18 to 51 credit hours, while the A.A.S. degrees range from 68 to 73 hours. The Suggested Computer Science Transfer Plan provides students with Freshman and Sophomore courses required to transfer to a Baccalaureate degree-granting institution. Enhanced Skills Certificates are also available in Web Applications upon completion of an A.A.S. degree.
